Can we get a Christmas tree?

Posted on: December 4, 2009

It’s a great gift to me to experience B’s delight at discovering all the wonders of Christmas for the very first time. This morning, before preschool, he was thinking about the Christmas tree. My strategy has been to just go on his ride, as though it’s all new to me as well.

B: “Do you think maybe we could get a Christmas tree?”

Me: “That’s a really good idea. I think we could do that.”

B: “Can we go buy one?”

Me: “Well, actually, we already have one downstairs in a box.”

B: “Really? Go get it! Go get it!”

Me: “This weekend.”

(Pause for a few minutes)

B: “Do we have any Christmas stuff downstairs? Do we have any stuff we can get ready for Christmas?”

Me: “Yes, we have all kinds of ornaments and decorations for Christmas, all downstairs.”

B: (with awe) “You go get it for me.”

Me: “Not today. Saturday.”

B: “Can you just show it to me?”
